如果在美里留半天看庙宇，我会把三清殿（San Ching Tian Temple，也见Lian Hua San San Ching Temple）排成一段慢慢看的短停留，而不是拍完牌楼就上车。这里在Krokop一带的住宅区，真正值得注意的，是宽阔庭院、横向展开的主殿，以及藏在侧边的凉亭和装饰墙怎样连成一个仍有人使用的信仰空间。

先把地点存好再出发。我不会只拿一张“美里华人庙宇”的照片来认路：附近还有其他庙，满眼巨龙的入口未必就是三清殿。沿Jln Chong Poh找到正确庙区后，先在不挡路的位置看清主殿和庭院的关系，才决定从哪一侧慢慢走。

三清殿是一处由道教人员照料的信仰空间。看这座建筑，我在意的不是争论它在东南亚排第几，而是它并非一处已经停止变化、只供游客观看的老遗址。宗教活动和日常维护仍在这里继续，参观的步调也应该让位给正在使用庙宇的人。

我会先看屋顶，再把视线移到柱子和台阶。橙色瓦面横向铺开，屋脊的装饰向上伸出；下方盘绕的龙柱、殿前香炉和台阶，又把人的注意力带回主殿入口。若只用广角把整座庙塞进画面，很容易忽略这些装饰其实也在引导人怎样接近祭祀空间。

走到龙纹浮雕墙前，观看的距离可以换一换。先退后看完整块墙，再辨认交错的龙身、云纹和卷曲线条。它与屋脊上的龙不一样：一个衬着天空，一个被收进清楚的长方形构图里。对我来说，这个差别比数一数“这里有多少条龙”更有意思，也更值得多停几分钟。看细节时，记得把通道留出来。

主殿旁边则是另一种尺度。长廊的柱列、园里的植物和小凉亭，把正面开阔的感觉收了回来。我会把这里当作走累后停一下、再回望主殿的位置，不会期待另有一座大型公园可以逛。只要当天允许通行，从正面转到侧面，已经能看见建筑不同的表情。

2026年8月，庙方道教团体获移交40万令吉UNIFOR拨款，用于改善与维修设施。这是今天理解三清殿的另一条线索：漂亮的庙宇也需要持续照顾，不是建好以后就永远保持原样。拨款不等于每项工程已经完工，更不代表每个角落都保证开放。遇上围栏、维修告示或正在举行的仪式，就调整路线；要进殿或靠近工作区域，先问管理人员，不为找拍摄角度越过限制。

下面这张庭院照片在2026年10月发布，镜头从庙区往入口看。我喜欢这个方向，因为它提醒人不必一路只盯着主殿；回头看牌楼与庭院，空间的层次才完整。其他较早照片适合帮助辨认装饰和建筑，不要拿来要求今天的植物、漆色或通行安排一模一样。

行程上，我会先留约半小时，够不够再依现场活动与自己的兴趣调整；这不是庙方规定的参观时长。喜欢华人庙宇建筑、装饰工艺，又愿意自己慢慢看的人，会比较适合这里。若非要有固定表演、导览或大型展馆才觉得值得，可能就不是这趟行程最优先的一站。

穿着得体，不挡祭祀动线；要拍仪式、信众或殿内空间，先征求同意。正在拜拜的人不是旅行照片里的布景，遇到活动时，我宁愿先收起相机。

地点在美里Krokop的Jln Chong Poh：Google Maps导航：美里三清殿。我会白天前往，依入口告示和管理安排参观，不围绕未经核实的固定开放时间或票价排得太紧。从古晋出发，则把它放进美里过夜行程，不为了这一站单独赶长途来回。

离开前，再从庭院侧边回看一次。主殿的宽屋顶、小凉亭与龙纹墙放在同一段步行里，比三个互不相干的打卡点更耐看。

I would give Miri's San Ching Tian Temple a different kind of stop from a sunset lookout. Come for the architecture at ground level: the entrance frames an open courtyard, the main hall spreads across it, and the smaller garden spaces reward a slower look along the sides. In Krokop, this is a working place of worship within a residential neighbourhood, not a monument set apart from the city.

The temple also appears as Lian Hua San San Ching Temple. I would save the exact location before leaving central Miri, rather than rely on a photograph of a colourful gateway. There are other Chinese temples nearby, and a dramatic dragon-filled entrance is not necessarily this one. The broad orange roof and the courtyard arrangement are more useful bearings than a generic search for a Miri temple.

This is a Taoist temple cared for by priests. That makes the interesting story one of a contemporary religious community, not a surviving building from the first years of the oil town. I would leave comparisons about which temple is the biggest aside. The scale is easy to appreciate without turning a place of worship into a contest.

From the entrance, let the building stay whole for a moment. Then compare the repeated rooflines with the columns beneath them. Dragon decoration climbs the columns and animates the ridge, while the stairs and incense burners organise the approach to the hall. For me, looking at how those parts guide movement is more rewarding than collecting a close-up of every ornament.

The dragon relief wall gives that approach a smaller scale. Here the figures sit within one rectangular panel rather than against the sky. I would step back to read the whole composition, then look at how the bodies, clouds and curling shapes overlap. The wall is a specific reason to linger; it is not just another backdrop for an entrance photograph. Keep any active worship route clear while looking.

A move toward the side of the hall changes the proportions again. Garden planting and a small pavilion sit beside the long line of columns. I would use this part of the grounds for a pause rather than expect a separate landscaped attraction. The contrast between a large ceremonial frontage and these more contained spaces is the point of walking around, wherever the day's access allows.

The temple's upkeep is part of its present story. In August 2026, an RM400,000 UNIFOR allocation was handed to its Taoist association for improvements and maintenance. An allocation is not a promise that every repair is finished or that every section will be open. I would keep the visit flexible: follow barriers and notices, and ask a caretaker before entering a prayer hall or an area affected by work. The accessible grounds can still be the focus of a worthwhile short visit without treating indoor access as an entitlement.

I would allow around half an hour as a starting plan, not as an official visit length. This suits someone who enjoys temple architecture and a quiet, self-directed stop. It is less suitable if the trip only feels worthwhile with a guided performance, a guaranteed ritual or a large museum exhibition. Dress respectfully, leave space for worshippers, and ask before photographing religious activity or an interior. If a ceremony is under way, the camera can wait.

Find it at Jln Chong Poh, Krokop, Miri: Lian Hua San San Ching Temple on Google Maps. I would visit in daylight and check the entrance arrangements on arrival rather than build a schedule around unverified fixed hours or admission prices. From Kuching, place it within a Miri trip; it is not a reason for a separate long-distance journey.

Before leaving, I would take one final look from the side of the courtyard. The wide roof, the smaller pavilion and the relief wall make more sense together than they do as three unrelated photo stops. That is the visit I would make time for.

砂拉越孤儿福利机构Peryatim获宣布额外捐助5万令吉，用于支持孤儿照护与教育工作。这是机构层面的支援，并非新推出的个人现金援助。

砂看守总理阿邦佐哈里（Abang Johari Tun Openg）10月30日晚在古晋一场慈善晚宴上宣布加捐。《婆罗洲邮报》报道，这笔款项旨在协助该机构继续为孩子提供照护、学习机会及成长支持。

Caretaker Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg made the announcement at a charity dinner in Kuching on Friday, Oct 30. The Sarawak Orphans Welfare Board’s programmes, rather than a new individual cash-aid scheme, are the stated purpose of the contribution.

The Borneo Post reported that the funding was intended to help Peryatim continue providing care and educational opportunities. Abang Johari pointed to former residents who had progressed to university and professional careers, placing the emphasis on support beyond children’s immediate daily needs.

The RM50,000 announcement is separate from the RM46 million allocation he also cited for wider Welfare Department assistance in the 2027 state budget. That larger sum covers several welfare programmes; it is not a RM46 million grant to Peryatim. No per-child payment or new public application process was set out in the announcement.

早餐不一定要往河滨挤。行程若经过 BDC，我会把 C3 Cafe 里的姐妹干盘面（Yong sisters’ Kampua Mee）当作一站：先选白干盘还是酱油干盘，再决定要不要加一份肉碎光饼分着吃。重点不是一次把整档都点齐，而是用两样食物认识这家人的福州手艺。

If breakfast takes you into BDC rather than the waterfront, the Yong sisters’ Kampua Mee stall at C3 Cafe offers a useful choice: start with the white noodles, or go straight for the soya-sauce version. I would choose the white plate first, then share a few pork-filled kompia if there is room. It keeps the meal focused on the stall’s Foochow cooking rather than turning breakfast into a long order.

The family connection here is more than a name on a sign. Stephanie Yong and her elder sister learned the craft from their late father, who made Kampua Mee for over 50 years in Pulau Babi. Four of his seven children went on to carry the trade forward. The sisters’ BDC stall is a newer chapter in that story, not a claim that this particular counter has been here for decades.

Before the move into C3 Cafe, Stephanie spent more than 11 years helping her sister run a cafe in Kota Samarahan. That cafe closed in 2024; the sisters later returned to serving their family recipes at a stall in BDC. For a visitor, the practical point is to look for their own 姐妹 Kampua Mee sign inside the cafe, not assume every noodle counter belongs to the same operator.

Their Kampua Mee uses pork lard and fried shallot oil. The white version leaves out soya sauce, while the darker plate adds it. That makes the two plates an easy comparison for a shared breakfast: order one of each rather than expecting two completely different noodle dishes. Pork is part of the cooking, so this is not a choice for diners avoiding it.

The kompia give you another way into the same Foochow food tradition. These buns are fried and filled with minced pork; I would treat them as a shared side instead of automatically adding another full noodle plate. Dumplings are also part of the stall’s offering, but noodles plus kompia already make a clear starting order.

The stall’s listed service is 6am–1pm, closed Thursdays. I would make this a breakfast or early-lunch stop and check with the stall before setting out specifically for it: 016-872 1920. Keep the order simple on a first visit—one noodle style you want to understand, and kompia to share. Which would you start with: white Kampua or the soya-sauce plate?

Internet connectivity is a condition of Sarawak’s announced plan to equip more than 1,400 schools with interactive smartboards using an estimated RM16 million allocation next year.

The caretaker premier outlined the plan at the 33rd Premier of Sarawak Special Awards and Sarawak Education Awards 2026 at Hikmah Exchange Event Centre in Kuching, The Borneo Post reported on Oct 30. Urban and rural schools were both included in the stated ambition, provided they have internet access.

For parents and teachers, this is a proposed 2027 provision, not confirmation that every school already has a board or will receive one on a fixed delivery date. The reported figure of about RM10,000 per board is a current cost estimate, not a published school-by-school procurement schedule.

The announcement also put teacher readiness alongside the equipment. The caretaker premier said educators need the knowledge and digital skills to use the boards effectively, and encouraged greater use of online teaching resources such as Khan Academy.

That leaves two practical conditions for classroom use: a working internet connection and teachers able to integrate the equipment into lessons. The report did not specify installation dates for individual schools or a separate programme to connect schools without internet access.

A RM3 million allocation for flood-prone parts of Miri includes two major drainage projects that still need to go through tender before work starts.

The funding will go through Miri City Council (MBM), with Desa Senadin, Permyjaya, Tudan and parts of Padang Kerbau named in the announcement. DayakDaily reported the details on Oct 30, citing the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) and the caretaker transport minister.

The planned packages include a RM1.17 million monsoon-drain upgrade along Jalan Desa Senadin, with a three-month implementation period, and RM1.26 million for maintaining and deepening earth drains along Jalan Miri–Kuala Baram over two months. Their technical designs are ready, but tendering comes before implementation.

A further RM562,390 package covers maintenance, dredging and clearing at residential drainage locations around Senadin, with a one-month implementation period. Those durations describe the work packages; they are not announced calendar completion dates.

Residents should also distinguish this allocation from work already finished. The Department of Irrigation and Drainage has separately completed 18 maintenance projects worth RM1.17 million, covering six retention ponds and 12 main drains. That identical RM1.17 million figure is not the new Jalan Desa Senadin contract.

Larger drainage proposals for Desa Senadin, Sungai Lutong and the Taman Tunku–Padang Kerbau stretch remain subject to utility issues and approvals. The new allocation is intended to reduce flood risk, not a declaration that those wider problems have been resolved.

The Batang Lupar 2 Bridge in Sri Aman is scheduled to open to the public on Saturday, Oct 31, adding another crossing to Sarawak’s road network.

The opening date was announced by Sarawak’s caretaker deputy premier at the Batang Paloh Bridge soft-opening ceremony on Oct 30, according to DayakDaily’s report citing the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).

For travellers, the distinction between the two projects matters. Batang Lupar 2 is the Sri Aman bridge scheduled for Oct 31; the ceremony where the announcement was made concerned Batang Paloh in the Daro area. The report’s RM299 million figure refers to Batang Paloh, not Batang Lupar 2.

The announcement sets out a planned opening day, not confirmation that vehicles are already crossing Batang Lupar 2 on Oct 30. No opening hour, vehicle restrictions or detailed traffic arrangements were provided in the report.

The bridge sits within the state’s wider connectivity programme, alongside the Coastal Road and Second Trunk Road. Its immediate practical milestone is public access on the announced date, rather than completion of the entire wider road network.

Pupils and parents using the roadside beside SJK Sungai Apong in Kuching now have a barrier between them and the deep drain.

Safety railings have been installed with funding from Kuching South City Council (MBKS), according to a council press release reported by DayakDaily on Oct 30. A council site assessment had identified the unprotected drain as a hazard, particularly when heavy rain raises the water level.

The work addresses a specific part of the school journey: the drain-side area used by families arriving at and leaving the school. It is a protective barrier, rather than a reported change to traffic flow, parking arrangements or school access.

MBKS placed the improvement under its work on Unicef’s Child Friendly Cities Initiative, which brings children’s safety into decisions about public infrastructure. Planning a weekend grocery stop? Emart’s dated 30 October–1 November 2026 flyer lists two useful cooking staples in its Kuching & Samarahan section:

• Fresh chicken, economy cut: member price RM11.49/kg.
• China carrots: member price RM1.99/kg.

A basket with 1kg of each comes to RM13.48 at the advertised prices. That is a shopping-budget calculation, not a claimed saving against regular prices. For weighed portions, the final amount depends on the actual weight.

The flyer limits all member-price items to 2 units/kg per day. For these two weighed products, plan around a 2kg daily limit for each item. Emart also says it may reject bulk purchases, and each transaction allows at most two member cards per customer.

Participating local branches listed on the official promotion page include Matang, Batu Kawa, Tabuan Jaya and Summer Mall. Choose a listed branch rather than assuming the same offer is available at every Emart or express outlet. The flyer has a separate Miri & Bintulu panel; prices from that panel are not used here.

Use the dates printed on the actual flyer: Friday, 30 October through Sunday, 1 November 2026. 朋岭码头小贩中心11个摊位迎来设施翻新，耗资29万8814令吉的提升工程已完成，并于10月30日由承包商交回古晋南市市政局。

这次改善不只是外墙重新上漆。工程包括更换屋顶及支撑结构、改善摊位内部与出餐区域，以及更换地砖、天花板、洗槽、铁闸和卷闸门，让摊贩日常作业及顾客用餐的空间一并提升。

工程从7月28日开始，原订10月27日完工，实际于10月20日完成，提早一周；10月30日是场地交接日，并非完工日。

古晋南市市长黄鸿圣（Wee Hong Seng）表示，中心自1989年设立以来，服务附近居民、工厂员工，以及从甘榜Muhibbah渡河往返的人。这让提升工程的直接意义落在日常吃饭、上班途中停留及小贩营生，而不只是旅游包装。

Pending Jetty Hawker Centre has been handed back to Kuching South City Council after a RM298,814 upgrade, with work finished on Oct 20 — a week before its deadline.

The contractor handed over the site on Oct 30. That is the handover date, rather than the date construction ended. Works had begun on July 28 and were scheduled to finish on Oct 27.

For the centre’s 11 stalls and their customers, the changes are practical: a replacement roof and supporting structure, improvements to stall interiors and serving areas, and replacement tiles, ceilings, sinks, grilles and roller shutters. External walls were also repainted.

Kuching South mayor Wee Hong Seng said the centre has served nearby residents, factory workers and people crossing from Kampung Muhibbah since 1989. The investment therefore affects an everyday food stop as well as the council’s plans to draw more visitors to Pending Jetty.

MBKS hopes the hawker centre and the nearby monument commemorating the Japanese armed forces’ surrender can complement one another. More visitors and higher hawker earnings remain the council’s aims, not measured results of the completed works. Wee also urged traders to keep stalls clean and display prices clearly.

The Batang Paloh Bridge opened to traffic on Oct 30, replacing the ferry crossing used by motorists travelling between Mukah and Tanjung Manis.

For coastal-road users, the immediate change is a fixed road crossing in place of a ferry-dependent link. The opening ends ferry services at this crossing; it does not mean all ferry crossings elsewhere on Sarawak’s coastal route have been replaced.

DayakDaily, citing the Sarawak Public Works Department, reported that the RM298.98 million bridge was opened through a soft-opening ceremony and symbolic release of traffic.

The two-lane bridge is 1.7km long. Its approach-road works cover another 1.71km on the Pulau Bruit side and 2.932km on the Tanjung Manis side — separate figures from the bridge’s own length.

The new link gives residents and motorists a direct land crossing over Batang Paloh. Wider benefits for trade, agriculture and tourism along the coastal corridor are expected, but no quantified journey-time saving was stated in the report.
