A Bomba helicopter left Miri for the Long Lellang crash site at 11.06am on Wednesday after heavy rain delayed the operation. The flight to Long Lellang STOLport is expected to take about an hour. The deployment follows Tuesday afternoon’s crash involving a Flying Doctor Service helicopter in Ulu Baram. Batik Air has agreed to resume Miri–Kuala Lumpur services, according to the Miri MP’s office, but no start date, frequency or timetable has been released. Firefighters put out a 10-acre bushfire at Miri’s Kuala Baram Bypass on Sunday evening after strong winds helped the flames spread quickly. About 70% of a one-storey Post Office Malaysia building in Bekenu was damaged in a fire on Saturday morning. Miri and Bintulu are set to receive expanded community HIV support under a RM2.25 million, three-year Sarawak allocation. Teratak Kasih Tok Nan, first established in Kuching as a halfway home and support centre, will extend services that include treatment support, temporary shelter, counselling, psychosocial care, treatment monitoring, welfare assistance and community outreach. The expansion brings this support model closer to people living with HIV, their families and other vulnerable groups in the two cities. A 56-year-old fishing boat owner was injured while trying to put out a fire on his own vessel in Miri. A 69-year-old retiree in Miri lost RM367,000 after joining an online investment scheme that promised fast returns. A foreign man suspected of installing ATM skimming devices in Brunei was arrested at Miri Airport. PETROS is producing oil onshore in Sarawak again after a 50-year break. Piling work at a Tudan construction site in Miri was stopped after a flammable gas leak was detected. A massive fire tore through a 21-door longhouse in Bekenu in the early hours of this morning, leaving 136 residents without a home.
