Being able to find an archive entry online is not the same as being able to read the document. That distinction was raised in Sarawak's legislative assembly on October 13. Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong called for a public-friendly platform that lets students, researchers and residents explore historical records without having to visit the library in person. She was debating the Sarawak State Library (Amendment) Bill 2026. Her proposals go beyond scanning: records should be accurately catalogued, kept in formats that remain readable, securely backed up and covered by disaster-recovery arrangements. She also sought priorities, targets and timelines for digitising historical documents, photographs and publications. Yong acknowledged the existing Sarawakiana digital collection and Records and Archives Reference Service, but asked how readily people can access the contents rather than just catalogue descriptions. Copyright, personal information, ownership and legitimate confidentiality restrictions would still need to be respected. These are proposals raised in the debate, not an announcement that a new access platform or recovery system has already been launched. For readers outside Kuching, the practical issue is whether more records can eventually be studied remotely, subject to those legal limits.

SarawakPass users can now scan a MyDigital ID QR code to reach participating Federal web services. In the other direction, MyDigital ID users can scan a SarawakPass QR code to access participating Sarawak services, DayakDaily reported on October 5 after the integration was showcased at IDECS 2026. The cross-government integration was implemented this year following a memorandum signed by the Sarawak Government and the National Cyber Security Agency on November 28, 2025, the report said. It is an access route for participating services, not a claim that every government service is already connected. The report said selected MyDigital ID-enabled mobile apps are expected to be added in the coming months. The showcase took place at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching on October 5; that is the event venue, while the service integration itself has no physical project site identified in the report.

Northern Sarawak’s connectivity plan is moving toward a direct Limbang–Lawas link, with the new route intended to reduce reliance on paths through Brunei. The agreement signed in Lawas on Aug 26 brings Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) and Syarikat SESCO Berhad (SESCO) together to use communications infrastructure already owned in Sarawak. It includes SESCO’s Virtual Fibre network, with the overall network alignment reported at about 1,926 kilometres. The gap is felt in everyday services. Businesses in Lawas have faced e-payment problems, while the Lawas district police headquarters has also experienced internet issues despite its role in disaster management. Better links would support education, healthcare, government services and emergency response across the two northern divisions. This is an infrastructure agreement, not a switch-on notice. The parties have not given a launch date, coverage map or speed target, so the next meaningful update will be where the route reaches and whether service interruptions ease.
