The Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development announced that the landmark will again welcome the public for community activities, recreation and food stalls from Monday. The upgrade included re-roofing works on the main tower and other improvements to safety, accessibility and overall usability. The project began in 2025. A familiar city landmark The Civic Centre is known for its umbrella-shaped observation tower and views of Kuching city. It has long been used for exhibitions, cultural performances, community programmes and public activities. The building first opened in 1988 as a social, cultural, educational and recreational venue for Kuching.
