Sarawak's Natural Resources and Environment Board is preparing for a carbon credit registry intended to record and track carbon credit units across the state.
The board held an awareness training session in Kuching on Oct 31 to strengthen its capacity to establish the registry, The Borneo Post reported. Forty-five participants came from NREB and other state agencies, including the Forest Department.
NREB said the planned centralised platform would help manage units, improve traceability and reduce double counting while strengthening oversight. The board's environmental quality controller was appointed registrar for the carbon credits register on March 1, 2025 under the state's greenhouse gas emissions legislation.
The session included a regional representative from Verra, which develops sustainability and climate standards. The report did not give a launch date for the Sarawak registry; the training is a preparation step rather than confirmation that the platform is already operating.
