Sarawak is developing a 2026–2030 ageing blueprint informed by a study of older people’s needs in urban, rural and remote communities.
Sarawak Tribune reported that the work with Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak and University of Technology Sarawak covers health, economic security, age-friendly environments, lifelong learning, and rights and protection.
The report identifies access to healthcare, financial constraints, unsuitable public facilities and difficulty adapting to digital technology among the issues being studied. Community and home care, as well as support for family caregivers, were also raised at a framework workshop in Kuching.
The blueprint is still being formulated. The report did not announce a new application process, individual payment or implementation date for specific programmes.
