这项安排持续至11月8日，共61天，属于古晋城市交通系统（KUTS）第一阶段红线工程的一部分；红线连接古晋中环（Kuching Sentral）与Pending。这也意味着，习惯在深夜经过这条市区道路的驾驶人士，未来两个月需要把工程时段纳入行程安排。

Part of Jalan Tun Razak will be closed nightly from Sept 9 to Nov 8 for tree-cutting work linked to Kuching’s ART project.

The closure will run from 9.30pm to 4.30am throughout the 61-day period. The affected stretch is part of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Phase 1 Red Line, which is being developed between Kuching Sentral and Pending. The work is tied to the future dedicated ART corridor, so the disruption will affect late-night journeys through this busy Kuching route.

Sarawak Metro said traffic-management and safety signs will be placed along the route. Drivers using Jalan Tun Razak at night should allow extra time, follow the temporary arrangements and watch for further notices if the work schedule changes.

The first thing to understand about Kampung Simuti’s new tanju is that it is not a resort dropped into the hills. It is an open-air verandah built by the village, reached as part of a rural Padawan drive where the view and the people who maintain it belong in the same story. The timber platform is the kind of place where I would arrive in daylight, let the greenery do the work, and resist turning a living village into a quick photo stop.

Tanju is the local name for this verandah, known here as KUD Ngerat. It officially opened in 2026 as a community-based tourism product, with a practical purpose beyond a lookout: the platform is intended to host camping, so visitors can stay close to the landscape rather than simply pass through it. That explains the broad, uncluttered deck and the way the structure faces out over the surrounding green rather than toward a commercial attraction.

The more important detail is how it came into being. The initial construction used a RM20,000 government allocation, but the tanju itself was built through gotong-royong by Kampung Simuti villagers. Once fully operational, the village JKKK is meant to manage it and return proceeds to the community. This is not background decoration: the platform is a small experiment in letting a rural settlement earn from its landscape while keeping control of the visitor experience locally.

Look beyond the railing and you can read the older layer of the place. Public trail and visitor records already identify Kampung Simuti as a Padawan outdoor destination, while older community photographs show the village as a landscape to move through, not a single built attraction. The new tanju changes that relationship: it gives the scenery a place to pause, and gives the village a clearer reason to receive visitors. A second development phase has been announced for toilets, changing rooms and an observation tower, so expectations should stay realistic while those additions are unfinished.

I would combine this with a daytime Upper Padawan route, allowing time for the road, village etiquette and whatever local arrangements the JKKK has confirmed. It suits travellers who want a quiet community-led stop, a camping possibility and a closer look at how rural tourism is assembled. It may disappoint anyone expecting a staffed visitor centre, guaranteed food service, fixed ticket counter or a polished all-day attraction. The tanju is newly opened, and facilities are still developing; check access and camping arrangements with the village before setting out.

Serian目前仍处于烟霾紧急状态，非必要工作场所暂停运作，直至空气污染指数（API）降至500以下。

这项紧急状态是在当地API升破“非常危险”水平后宣布。超市、油站、银行和保安等必要服务获准继续营业，其他政府及私人工作场所则暂时关闭。

包括古晋、Padawan、Bau、Lundu、Samarahan和Serian在内的12个县属，学校从9月7日至11日暂时停课，期间改为居家教学。

Serian remains under a haze emergency, with non-essential workplaces closed while authorities wait for the air pollutant index to fall below 500.

The emergency was declared after the district’s API climbed above the very hazardous threshold. Essential services, including supermarkets, petrol stations, banks and security forces, are allowed to operate.

Schools in 12 districts — including Kuching, Padawan, Bau, Lundu, Samarahan and Serian — are closed from Sept 7 to 11. Lessons continue through home-based teaching during the closure.

The order is confined to Serian; it is not a movement-control order. The emergency will be lifted when the API drops below 500, so residents should check official air-quality updates before making plans or travelling into the affected area.

If you walk Jalan Masjid looking for a normal attraction, the first surprise is how little there is to enter. Across from Brooke Dockyard, the old Kuching Railway Terminus and maintenance depot sit as a quiet, weathered reminder rather than a functioning museum. I would treat this as a short, respectful exterior stop in an old-town heritage walk—not a place to climb through or expect an open visitor centre.

That quietness is part of the story. Sir Charles Brooke’s Sarawak Government Railway opened officially on 9 April 1916, linking the Kuching terminus first to the 3rd Mile Bazaar and then to the 10th Mile Bazaar, now Kota Padawan. The trip took about 35 minutes, with five services a day. It carried people, goods and livestock, so the line was an early attempt to connect Kuching’s town economy with the inland settlements.

Look at the surviving terminus with that in mind: it is not a grand colonial station designed for photographs, but the leftover working edge of a small railway system. Three coal-fired engines—Bulan, Bintang and Jean—were powered by coal from the Sadong colliery. When the road to the 7th Mile improved and cheaper bus services grew, the railway lost its everyday purpose and ceased full service in January 1931.

The line’s history also has a darker turn. During the Japanese Occupation, parts of it were used on and off to move stone from the 7th Mile quarries, passengers and prisoners of war forced to work there. That is why the old building matters beyond nostalgia: the same transport corridor reflects ambition, changing technology and wartime coercion. A heritage walk here should slow down enough to notice the depot, the street alignment and the gap between what the railway once connected and what survives now.

I would pair this stop with Brooke Dockyard, the old courthouse quarter and the riverside, allowing time to read the surrounding streets rather than making a special trip only for the building. It suits travellers who enjoy industrial history, archival stories and overlooked urban details. Anyone wanting a polished museum, preserved carriages or guaranteed interior access will be disappointed. The terminus is currently best approached as a public-street exterior view; do not enter fenced or unused areas, and check local conditions before going.

星期日早上，古晋空气污染指数（API）降至235，仍处于“非常不健康”水平；砂拉越另外4个地区则已跌出这一级别。

古晋早上8时的读数，比星期六晚上8时的276稍有下降。诗里阿曼（Sri Aman）当时为216，鲁勃安都（Lubok Antu）、伦杜和加诺威分别录得237、215及215。

三马拉汉、实文然、民都鲁和沙马拉汉工业区的读数降至184至200之间，回到“不健康”范围。早上8时的更新中，砂拉越没有监测站超过300的危险水平。

烟霾情况仍不平均。东盟烟霾中心指出，加里曼丹的烟流继续飘向砂拉越，风向和降雨都可能令读数改变。API介于201至300时，古晋居民应减少长时间户外活动，也要让儿童、长者和呼吸系统疾病患者避开烟霾较重的地方。

Kuching remained in the very unhealthy air-quality band on Sunday morning, even as readings improved in four other Sarawak areas.

The API reading in Kuching was 235 at 8am, down from 276 at 8pm on Saturday. Sri Aman was also in the very unhealthy range at 216, while Lubok Antu, Lundu and Kanowit recorded 237, 215 and 215 respectively.

Samarahan, Serian, Bintulu and Samalaju moved into the unhealthy band after their readings fell to between 184 and 200. No Sarawak station was above the hazardous threshold of 300 at the 8am update.

The improvement is uneven. Smoke haze from Kalimantan was still drifting into parts of Sarawak on Sunday, and conditions may change with wind and rainfall. For Kuching residents, an API reading between 201 and 300 remains a signal to reduce prolonged outdoor activity and keep vulnerable family members away from smoky air.

木中的巴当拉雅旧桥自9月4日起关闭，维修期可能长达两周；替代新桥的实体工程进度已超过70%。

砂副总理拿督阿玛 Douglas Uggah Embas9月5日巡视现场时表示，公共工程局发现旧桥存在结构安全问题，因此必须先封桥维修。即使工程提早完成，桥梁也可能维持关闭两周，确保重新开放前完成安全检查。

新桥的实体工程已超过七成，连同附属道路在内的整体项目进度则超过40%。乌加恩要求承包商把握目前较干的天气，加快建设。

目前没有公布旧桥确切重开日期。经过木中的驾驶人士，出发前应查看最新交通通知；新桥仍在施工，不能把工程进度当成已经恢复通行。

The old Batang Layar Bridge in Betong has been closed since Sept 4 and may stay shut for up to two weeks while safety repairs are carried out.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the Public Works Department found structural concerns at the bridge. Even if the repair work finishes early, the closure may run for the full two weeks so the crossing can be checked before reopening.

The replacement bridge has passed 70 per cent physical progress. The wider project, including related road works, is more than 40 per cent complete. Uggah asked the contractor to use the current dry weather to speed up construction.

For people travelling through Betong, the confirmed position is simple: the old crossing is not yet open, and the new bridge is still a construction project. Follow the latest local traffic notice before choosing the route; no reopening date was announced in the report.

2026年第三轮行动在9月3日至5日展开，范围包括三马拉汉、斯里阿曼、木中、加帛和林梦五个省份，目标涵盖巴当艾、峇贡和姆仑三个水坝，以及13个集水区。乌加恩说，之前的行动对峇贡和姆仑水坝水位有帮助，但巴当艾的效果较小。

目前更迫切的是水源压力，而不是把人工降雨当成烟霾的保证解方。卢保的供水已被形容为危急，阿威和斯保的供水运作也已暂停；炎热天气可能延续至10月。

人工降雨必须配合云量、湿度和风向。宣布行动时段，不代表每次都会成功起飞，也不代表每个地区都会下雨。

Sarawak wants cloud-seeding missions to continue through September whenever the weather allows, as dry conditions put dams and raw-water sources under pressure.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the state was discussing more frequent operations with the federal government. The request is conditional: aircraft can only seed clouds that meet the required atmospheric conditions.

The third 2026 operation ran from Sept 3 to 5 across Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Kapit and Limbang. It targeted three dams — Batang Ai, Murum and Bakun — and 13 catchment areas. Uggah said previous missions had helped raise levels at Murum and Bakun, although the effect at Batang Ai was smaller.

The immediate concern is water, not a guaranteed fix for the haze. Lubau’s supply was described as critical, while operations at Awik and Spaoh had stopped. Hot weather is expected to remain a risk into October.

Cloud seeding depends on suitable clouds, humidity and wind. A scheduled window therefore does not guarantee a flight or measurable rain at a particular town.

近期要来砂拉越旅游的访客，出发前应先查看最新APIMS读数和活动主办方通知；户外行程是否适合，取决于当天的空气状况。

Sarawak’s haze is already changing travel plans, with the state recording a dip in tourist arrivals as air quality worsens.

Tourism Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the decline was noticeable and could continue while the haze persists. He made the remarks in Kuching on Sept 5, as Serian remained under a state of emergency after its API reading passed 500 earlier in the week.

The pressure is not limited to hotels and tour operators. Kuching’s Borderland Music Festival and Miri’s Jom Heboh Carnival are among the events facing a more difficult operating environment. Abdul Karim said organisers should follow SDMC guidance and reconsider outdoor plans when readings become very unhealthy.

Kuching recorded an API reading of 313 on Sept 4. Serian was at 334 on the morning of Sept 5, after peaking at 521. Schools in 12 districts are scheduled to close from Sept 7 to 11, affecting nearly 200,000 students.

For visitors, the practical question is whether an outdoor itinerary still makes sense on the day. Check the latest APIMS reading and event notice before travelling; the numbers can change with wind and rain.
